Katniss immediately goes looking for Peeta. She finds him very severely injured near the stream. For two days she treats him, using a mix of natural medicines, and a medicine she got from Haymitch and her sponsors. He doesn’t get any better, in fact, he gets worse, so when there is an announcement that there is something for every district at the cornucopia Katniss knows she has to go there.

When Katniss got up after she exploded the careers food she decided it was time for her to go back and meet Rue at their checkpoint. When she got back to the checkpoint Rue wasn’t there, so she waited all morning, but Rue still didn’t come. Katniss then decided to go looking for Rue. When Katniss got to the third fire Rue was supposed to light it wasn’t burned or light, so Katniss decided to look in between the second and third fires for Rue. She found Rue in a net, but just when she saw her, a boy from district 1 ran up and speared Rue, so Katniss immediately shot him. After a long day of thinking about dead people, Katniss heard the news, two people can be on the same team and win together.

Right when the fire happened Katniss started to run, she was doing well except for the fact that after a while fireballs started to be launched at her. She lived but then she heard the same pack of six, the careers, people who basically train for the hunger games their whole life, and they were looking for a fight. Katniss wasn’t though so she climbed up a tree as far as she could and the careers, being muscular and well fed, could not climb on the branches that Katniss was on. When Katniss realized there was a nest of Tracker Jackers, deadly hornets that “track” you, above her, she climbed up, and then she cut it down on the careers. Although three Tracker Jackers stung her, she had enough sense to get the bow from one of the girls who died from them. Two days later, when she recovered from her madness, she went hunting, caught food, and made an alliance with Rue, another tribute. Then, she went on attack an managed to blow up the stockpile of supplies and food the careers got from the cornucopia.

The games are just going to start so Katniss gets a strategy from her mentor, get clothes and a hairdo from Cinna, and then she goes up and gets her first look at the arena. The arena, like she hoped for, is a dense pine forest, which, at the time, looked like it had lots of water. Her strategy was to go straight for the woods and not go for any of the weapons and resources in the cornucopia. However when she saw some of the resources she was tempted to go for them. She went and got a backpack and got a knife thrown at her, which she got to keep. Then she went off in the woods. The first night there was a pack of six nearly right under her, but they didn’t see her and she survived. The second night no one came. On the third day she could barely walk when she finally found water, and the third night, when she thought everything was going great there was a forest fire, and she had to leave quickly.

Although today I only read 15 pages, they were a very eventful 15 pages. First, Katniss went back to her designers and got a costume for the interviews. Katniss's costume was a dress with jewels that didn't actually light her on fire, but it made her look like she was on fire when she spun around. Then she went to have lessons about how to act in the interview. She was having trouble deciding on how to act during the interview after she finished arguing with Haymitch, her instructor, but her stylist said just to be herself and everything would be OK. She did just that and her interview went great, but now its time for the games to begin.

The day after the opening ceremony training started. During the first three days of training Peeta and Katniss learned many valuable skills like, making camouflage, knife throwing, starting fires, making shelters and so on. Then they have private sessions to show what they are best at, Peeta did some weight lifting and Katniss, some archery. Then it was time for them to get their score, Peeta got and 8 out of 12 and Katniss, who thought she was going to get a 3, got an 11.

After Katniss got chosen as a tribute, she went into a building, said goodbye to all of her friends and family, and then she got on a train to the capitol. On the long train ride she had dinner and breakfast with her manager Haymitch, who was not someone she was looking forward to relying on for her sponsorship, due to all his drinking. Then her and Peeta, the other tribute made a deal where he would stay sober, so he could get them sponsors. After she got to the city, she met her designer, who thought it would be best if he were to catch Katniss on fire. She thought this was a very scary idea but when it actually happened it made District 12 , the district that Peeta and Katniss are representing, the most popular.

Today I started the book Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins. In the beginning of the book we meet the main character, Katniss, a very responsible girl who has had to run her family for 5 years since her father died. Everyday she goes illegally out in the woods and catches meals for her family. She also sells some of her game to the black market for money. Then, we learn about the Hunger Games. A battle fought by 24 normal kids (12-18), but this isn’t just a normal battle this is to the death. When Katniss’s 12 year old sister get picked Katniss, who is 16, volunteers and takes her sisters place.
