Janie comes back from the funeral of her husband Tea Cake. Everyone is mad at her for marrying someone younger than herself. The townspeople are throwing lots of insults about how she acts too young. I think that this could possibly be a flash forward because this doesn't seem to be going anywhere and there are flash forwards at the begining of many books.

Ravi Chandra is an Indian man who works at a power plant and is craving riches. In order to get money, he accepted a deal to blow up a power plant for lots of money. He goes in and places a C4 explosive that is supposed to have a ten minute countdown, but right when he flips the switch it blows up causing him to vaporize. There is a giant cloud of radiation all over, so chaos breaks loose.

The Three Sisters- Esperanza meets three fortune tellers who read her hand and tell her she is going to be very succesful. They tell her that when she leaves she has to come back to Mango street.

A House of My Own- Esperanza describes the house that she wants- not an apartment or a basement; A real house.

Mango Says Goodbye Sometimes- Esperanza talks about when she is going to leave Mango the man she is using a metaphor to represent the street. This is the last chapter.

Bums in the Attic- Esperanza says if she has a big house she will let bums live in the attic.

The Monkey Garden- Sally goes and kisses boys in the monkey garden. Esperanza tries to save her, but she didn't want to be

Red Clowns- Sally goes off with a boy instead of coming to meet Esperanza at the Carnival near the red clowns like she said.

Linoleum Roses- Sally gets married, but her husband isn't very nice, and he controls her too much.

Geraldo No Last Name- Esperanza talks about how Marin always goes to dances and once she danced with a guy who got killed shortly after their dancing. 

Edna's Ruthie- The only adult that Esperanza likes is Ruthie, who is Edna's Daughter. Ruthie really likes book, and also Ruthie could move to a nice home somewhere else, but she doesn't. 

Sire- Sire is a kid around the street who really scares Esperanza. She talks about his girlfriend and about what they do together.

Papa Who Wakes up Tired in the Dark - Esperanzas Dad comes in and tells her that her Grandma is dead.

Born Bad - Esperanza tells about her aunt, who was very sick, and Esperanza says she is bad because she imitated her aunt on the day that she died.

Elenita, Cards, Palms, and Water - Esperanza goes to get her fortune told in hope that she will have a house. The only thing that Elenita sees is a house in the heart though. Esperanza is pretty dissapointed that she paid five dollars for this.

Meme Ortiz; Louie, His Cousin & His Other Cousin; Marin; There was an old women who had so many kids she didn't know what to do; Alicia who sees mice; Darius and the clouds- All of these chapters were introducing new characters into the story. Some were kind of wired like Louie's cousin, but others were Esperanza's friends.

The First Job- Esperanza gets a job. She is very nervous, but it is an easy job, so she is happy about that. She meets a man who is nice, but the he kisses her.

The House on Mango Street is a compilation of little stories so from now on I will write about some of the more important ones. 

The House on Mango Street- Esperanza describes her crumbly, old house, but says that at least she owns it and doesn't have to share with anyone. 

My Name- Esperanza talks about how badly she hates her name, and how kids make fun of her for it. She wants to be nicknamed Zeze the X.

Our Good Day- Esperanza meets these kids trying to buy a bike and she helps them out with five dollars. They go riding the bike, and in the end they decide to share it from that day on.

Gil's Furniture Sold & Bought- Esperanza and her sister describe the store down the street that the call the junk store. Nenny tries to buy a music box, but the man says it's not for sale

Teresa tells Thomas that Chuck saved Thomas and Thomas should be happy to be alive and he shouldn't waste the life that Chuck wanted him to have mourning. It turns out that the rescue wasn't actually real. It was one final variable as well as the murder of Chuck. The WICKED people are now pick who they think should be the leader. Also, when the gladers wake up in the morning they will be supposedly sent to what is called Stage 2.

Thomas gets a trail made for him by the other fighters so he starts running at the cliff. He gets their, but he barely makes it. Him, Chuck, and Teresa get into a lot of trouble in the griever hole when Thomas is forced to kill a griever, and just before grievers come Teresa gets the code entered in and the grievers all shut down. The 20 gladers that survive all go down a long slide and end up in a corridor with the creators watching them. A lady comes out, but rescuers come and kill her and take away the gladers. They take them to a house and Thomas feels very safe.

They get going and run all the way until the last corner to the cliff wheee they are confronted by 15 greivers. Everyone, even Alby, is terified. They talk about how hopefully the grievers will only take one and suddenly Alby runs in to the pack of grievers now surrounding the gladers. The grievers easily kill Alby. Thomas is about to go but before he can the grievers start charging and Thomas realizes that the sacrifice didn't work whatsoever.

Newt belives Thomas idea about going through the griever hole so he goes back to the meeting and trys to convince the other keepers that it's a good idea. Newt convinces the keepers and most of the people. Then they start preparing. They make weapons where you can be at a distance while attacking like spears, and they pack bags with food and grief syrum. Thomas and Teresa figure out that they are the ones who have to punch in the code.

Thomas and Minho search the maze all night, and they find out that the walls are no longer moving. The people back at the Glade lost another person, but they figured out the code, which is FLOAT CATCH BLEED DEATH STIFF PUSH. However, they have no clue what this means. Thomas gets so desperate for memories that the next night he runs out and purposefully gets stung by grievers so he can remember things. He remembers that him and the others were chosen. This whole thing is really a test to see how they react to variables and to find the strongest. He also remembers how to escape; they will have to go through the hole for the grievers, and then they have to type in the code in a computer. This will open up a door that they can go through and it will let them escape. He also remembers that the maze is unsolvable.

Thomas watches the grievers go away and he realizes that he has to go check on Teresa. He goes and sees her and realizes that the maze needs to be compared section to section, not day to day. Then he sees that the map room is on fire, but luckily Newt had the real maps stored in the basement. Thomas doesn't know how to compare the maps but he thinks about seeing them on top of one another, so he puts the maps on wax paper stacks them up and the compares sections and it says, Float Catch.

Thomas has a lot of trouble sleeping as he keeps thinking about how the grievers could attack at any moment. At about two in the morning, Thomas hears the grievers outside. They all wake up and eventually the griever arrives at the boarded up window, but before it can eat anyone, a crazed Gally runs in and rips the boards off the window and dives into the griever who kills Gally immediately. Before Gally died, he told everyone that every night one person will be killed.

The girl comes and sees Thomas and they talk, but as soon as Alby sees the girl, he send her to the jail. The doors didn't close for the night so everyone is panicked. They try to make barriers so the grievers can't get in but they don't have a lot of building supplies. Also, Thomas tries to get the girl out of jail because she says that she doesn't want to spend the night in jail, but Newt says she can come out in the morning if they live. He says that the jail is the safest place anyway. Thomas and everyone else squeeze into the homestead for the night.

Thomas feels like he wakes up early because it is slightly dark, but when he comes out he sees that the sun has totally dissapeared and that the sky is fully grey. Then he and Minho go out into the maze as Minho says that the desperation level is increased. They go in and see a griever very quickly. They follow it and watch it go right off the cliff. They throw rocks off of the cliff and observe that in one small area the thing that you throw just dissapears. They do the rest of their normal run and they see nothing new. When they comes back Alby tells them that the supplies haven't come yet, and Chuck tells Thomas that the girl is awake. In his head he hears the girl say, "The Maze is a code, Tom. The Maze is a code.

Minho takes Thomas into the maps room and shows him that they make maps everyday. Then it is time to go into the maze. They go into the maze and Minho shows Thomas that if you cut a piece of ivy at every corner you can know which way to go. Also, Thomas thinks about following the Griever to see where they go but Minho says that that is a death wish. Thomas finds this plaque on the wall that says World in Catastrophe: Killzone Experiment Department. He thinks this is what wicked stands for. Right before Thomas goes to sleep he hears the girl say "Tom, I just triggered the ending."

Thomas runs very far into the maze and he realizes that he has very good instincts for being a runner. Then he comes back out and sleeps in a far corner in the woods. The next day he is woken up and taken to the slammer, their jail, for the day. Chuck comes and talks to him about how he misses his family, and Thomas realizes that the Gladers are actually human. At the end of the day Alby comes and lets Thomas loose, and Thomas goes immediately back to his little corner for some sleep. The next morning Thomas goes with Minho to get running attire and weapons. Thomas is surprised that they have weapons.

Thomas goes to lunch with Newt and Newt tells Thomas that Thomas is important and that Thomas has to talk about everything to Newt. Thomas tells Newt how the Glade seemed familiar and how he wanted to be a runner right from the start. Then they go to the girls room and the Med Jack named Clint tells them that the girl always says Thomas's name. Thomas is trying to remeber who she is and then she starts talking to him in his head. She says her name is Teresa, and she says "It was you and me, Tom. We did this to them. To us."

After the meeting of the keepers Thomas is told by Chuck that Alby wants to see him. Thomas and newt go to see Alby, but he makes Newt leave. Then he says to Thomas that he saw Thomas durind the changing. Then Alby spazzes out and trys to kill himself. Newt comes back in and saves Alby.

Thomas hears Alby moan all day long, and he eventually goes outside. Outside, Newt comes and informs Thomas that he has to go to a meeting of the keepers the next day. Thomas goes and the keepers decide whether to punish or praise Thomas. The verdict is that he will go to jail for one night and then he will be signed up to be a runner. Everyone approves of this except Gally, who is very far away from approval.

Thomas heads straight at the one that's alone and moves away at the last second. He is caught by Minho who leads Thomas to the cliff. The Greivers are coming full speed towards Thomas, and at the last second he and Minho move sending the Grivers flying off the cliff. Thomas and Minho get back and see Newt and then realize the still have to get Alby from up in the vines. Thomas is forced to go back to the homestead and he gets treated. Then Chuck wakes Thomas up to inform him that Alby is alive.

Thomas is thinking of all kinds of possibilities, but he decides to go up on the wall using the ivy growing on it. He climbs but, can’t make it over because he is trying to save Alby and is forced to push him up. He gets about 30 feet up when the griever comes. It sees him and starts climbing up the wall. Once it has almost caught up to him, he fleas to the left, but the griever eventually catches up when Thomas hits the wall. He starts running through the maze and is doing well until three grievers come at him from the other direction.

They strap Ben to a big pole, and they force him outside right before the doors close. He looks very sad, and for some reason Thomas feels guilty. The next day Thomas goes and works with the Keeper of the garden workers, Zart. At the end of the day Newt is waiting outside of the maze for Alby and Minho to come back from investigating the dead greiver. Newt leaves when the doors start closing, but right before the doors close Thomas sees Minho dragging Alby, so he goes in. Thomas is shut in, and Minho says that them dying is a garuntee.

Minho tells Alby and Thomas that he found a dead Greiver. After seeing the look on Alby's face, Thomas realizes that this has never happened before. Thomas goes to the forest to be away from people, but in no time Chuck comes to tell Thomas the news, Ben is still alive but he is going to be banished. Thomas doesn't know what banished means.

Thomas is start trying out the different jobs today. The first job that he is trying out is a worker in the Blood House. They go and meet Winston the Keeper of the Blood House. Thomas leaves the Blood House after seeing Winston kill a pig and start cutting it up. Then Thomas saw a runner. He went to go talk to the runner but the runner just collapsed, so Thomas called for Alby. The runner, Minho, makes Alby get him water and he says that he discovered something very important.

The girl is alive and medics come and help her. Chuck makes Thomas some more food, and then Thomas goes around the Glade looking around. He sees a beetle and chases it to the graveyard where Ben attacks him. When Ben gets a knife and is about to strike again Alby kills him with a bow and arrow.

Thomas gets woken up very early and sent to a window where  he sees a cow sized vicous looking beast. Then he goes on his tour. A little  it in a buzzer rings and they say it means someone is coming up in the box that Thomas came up on. Everyone is shocked to find out that it is a girl. When Thomas comes over she says everything is going to end and then drops dead with her hand up. They find a peice of paper in her hand and it says “She’s The Last One. Ever.”

Thomas finds out that there is a maze around the Glade. He sees these people called runners coming back from the maze. He also, starts to see the doors close. Thomas has this really weired feeling that he's been to the maze before and he tells Chuck he wants to be a runner. However, Chuck says Thomas should forget it and he will never be a runner.

Gally comes up to Thomas and says that he has been stung and while he was going through the changing he saw Thomas. He says Benny, who is going through the changing now will see Thomas too. Gally tells Thomas to go up the stairs and Thomas sees Benny going through the changing which is extremely nasty. Chuck doesn't give many answer to Thomas but he does tell him that the giant walls are actually doors that close every night.

Thomas meets Chuck who is nice and explains some to him. Thomas also hears a boy screaming and Chuck says he will live but he is just in a lot of pain because he is getting stung by the greivers. Chuck tells about how everyone forgets the same stuff. Thomas starts to get kind of mad because no one will tell him anything.

Thomas, who appears to be the main character, finds himself in a dark elevator that he rides upward in for a long time. Then when he finally gets to the top he is greeted by many boys who say "Welcome to the Glade." Thomas looks around and he sees he is in a courtyard surrounded by 4 giant cement walls that have slits down the middle of them. They try to tell Thomas about the Glade but he doesn't really unerstand so they are going to tell him on the tour tomarrow.

Katniss had energy but loses it when she sees people hiring bones in a mass grave. When Katniss gets home she sees Prim's cat Buttercup. Katniss gets so sad and angry because the cat really makes her remeber Prim. Katniss then realizes the good in the cat and things turn for the better again. She starts hunting and making a book of people that can't be forgotten and more people come to 12. In the end Katniss decides that who she really loves is Peeta. They have kids and Katniss fears the day when she will have to tell her kids all of the terrible things that happened in the past.

Katniss sees Snow, feels bad for him, and therefore she doesn't assassinate him. However when she points her arrow upward she ends up shooting Coin. Katniss shot coin because she knew that the bomb that killed Prim was Coins bomb not Snows. They take her down to her room in the training center where she decides to kill herself by not eating. Katniss gets taken to 12 and sits in the same chair for a very long time until Peeta comes and plants primrose around Katniss's house. Then it seems she feels fine again as she goes out hunting in a cheerful mood.

Katniss finds snow sitting in the rose garden, and he tells her Gale actually sent the bombs that killed Prim and almost Katniss. Katniss thinks about this, but finally she decides to consult a drunken Haymitch. Now it is assasination day and Katniss's prep team comes and preps her for the execution of Snow. Then the victors vote and they vote to execute Snow and then hold a hunger games with Capitol kids to get revenge.

Katniss realizes that the captured Gale doesn't have his nightlock, so the Capitol could easily torture him. There is a barrier of kids blocking the way into the mansion, but when they receive parachutes, most explode. Then the medics come rushing in, Prim is one of them, and then the of the packages explode. Katniss is totally burned up but the doctors save her, and Coin informs her that Snow is still Katniss's to kill. However Katniss cannot talk anymore because of her emotional trauma. Katniss, after mostly healing, goes to a place and finds that it is where they grow Snows roses.

Katniss and her squad are going to take action to kill snow but they can't think of a way to get him out of his house so that they can kill him. The rebels make a big advance but Katniss is still in Tigris's cellar. They get redesigned by Tigris and start moving out. Cressida and Pollux go first, then Gale and Katniss, and finally Peeta who is fully prepared to sacrifice himself to create a distraction. After going onto the street Katniss realizes the rebels are already there and she gets caught in the crossfire of a battle. After a horrible pod takes out the ground Gale has to swing into a house where white gloved hands take him.

Katniss never finds out who the lady was but she doesn't really care. They go into the closets and blend in with the crowd that still exists deep in the Capitol. They go to the not very popular store of Tigris an old stylist and she let's them hide in her basement. They get a good night sleep and then Katniss admits to lieing when she said her mission was to kill Snow. Apperently everyone else already knew though.

Peeta says that he should kill himself because he could be tortured, but the squad won't let him so he comes along to the center of the Capitol. They have to take the maze of multilevel underground tunnels to get to the center because of all the pods above the ground. Pollux is a big help to the squad underground because he has been there before. Soon after they get in the tunnels though Snow sends Mutts after them. The Mutts kill all but five of the squad in a frantic battle in the tunnel. Then Katniss get above ground welcomed by a lady that she has to kill immediately.

Then it turns into a disater scene. Another bomb goes off, this black stuff starts shooting up from the street that they came from, blocking the squads way out. Next Mitchell gets caught in a net of barbed wire, and to make it worse Peeta goes insane and tries to butt end Katniss. Katniss convinces everyone that their real mission is to go kill President Snow and they belive her. After the squad makes a clean getaway they see themselves being "killed" on TV because the Capitol still thought that they were in the same apartment. Also, Peeta says the next step is to kill him.

It sacres everyone that Peeta might kill someone during the night time. That would be terrible, but Katniss and Boggs think that Coin, the president of 13, is trying to kill Katniss so she can be the new president. They start to try to be nice to Peeta so they play the real not real game because he said he doesn't know what is real or not real. Then they go into a mini version of combat to make a better propo. Unexpectedly Boggs steps on a part of the street triggering a bomb that blows his legs off.

Katniss is really moving along with her training and is being filmed all the time for some new propos. Katniss is so excited to find out she is in a squad with Gale and Finnick under Boggs' command. Sadly Johanna did not pass the test because they flooded the simulator with water, the material used for her torcher in the Capitol, so she passed out after a flashback. When it is finally time to leave 13 Katniss and her the other members of her squad are told that they are the "Star Squad" but this makes them mad because then they don't get as much real action. After one of Katniss's squad members dies Peeta comes to the squad as a replacement.

Katniss is not going to be sent into battle in the Capitol. This makes her very very angry. Also, Peeta is now aloud to be moving around, but Katniss doesn't really like this. Peeta seems very cheerful until they start talking about Katniss then he starts having spasms. Katniss has nightmares after Johanna tells her about Peeta screaming when they were in the Capitol.

It turns out that the bullet was shot from somewhere else not from the man in front of Katniss, but it was shot nevertheless and ,thanks to her heavily armored mockingjay suit, she survived. The armor was so thick that the bullet didn't even touch Katniss, but it did bruise her ribs and rubture her spleen. Katniss goes to see Peeta who actually doesn't do anything to hurt her. However she is sad because Peeta can finally see he for what she is.

They don't trap everyone inside, but they do manage to trap them so they can only go out one way. When people finally come out the are hurt and they have guns. Katniss instinctively goes to help the man and then he trains his gun on her. She gives a speech about why people should join the rebels, but then she gets shot by the man on live TV.

Katniss watches Delly go in and have a peaceful conversation with Peeta until he brings up Katniss. He calls her a killer and a mutt. Now Katniss is going to go to District 2. Two is the only district not in rebel control. It actually mostly is but the Capitol military base in the middle, the Nut, is still controlled by the Capitol. Soon Gale comes to District 2 as well and he talks to Katniss about Peeta. They are trying to find a way to capture the nut, but they can't until Gale says the should trap everyone on the inside of it.

To protect Gale, Katniss pulls it together and makes a propo that distracts the Capitol during the raid. After a long time, everyone comes back, and they are all alive, but when Katniss goes to see Peeta he chokes her. Katniss recovers to find out that the Capitol messed up Peetas mind through a process called hijacking. They are now going to try to get Peeta back to normal but they might not be able to.

Katniss, after three days, is allowed out of the bunker. No one was hurt and they say that was due to Peeta because he warned them ten minutes before District 13's sensor picked up the bomb. Now Katniss is going aboveground to shoot some propos showing the bombed District. Now they are sending in a rescue team for Peeta but Gale is on it, which means his life is in danger.

Katniss realizes Prim is missing just as the blast doors are closing and she has to wedge her hand between them to stop them from closing. Katniss keeps the doors open long enough and Prim gets in safely. Then the first bomb hits it is a big explosion even down in the ground where they are. Prim makes Katniss realize that there is no point in them killing Peeta because he is there way to get her to do what they want. However, Prim says they will do "whatever it takes to break you" to Peeta.

Katniss flies back to District 12 to make “propo.” She sings to the mockingjays, talks about hunting with Gale, and tells Peeta, while standing in the rubble of his house, that he is not smart to call for a ceasefire. Later Peeta is on TV, and, before Capitol personnel can beat him, he says District 13 is going to be bombed. They then send District 13 into lockdown and Katniss prepares for what seems like it could be a long time in a rocky cavern.
