Katniss immediatly runs to the now electrified fence which she realizes she can't get over. Then she runs to Haymitch's house, and she talks to him. Then, the next day she goes over to Haymitch's house and see Peeta who says they are going to start training like careers do. Then they draw Katniss's and Haymitch's names, and Peeta immediatly volunteers for Haymitch. They then go immediatly on the train and leave District 12.

Katniss takes a while to recover, but, eventually she does and goes back to her busy lifestyle. After the wedding dresses are shown on TV they go to the president who goes back to earlier hunger games and specifically Quarter Quells, special hunger games every 25 years. The theme for this year is that the tributes are going to be reaped from the previous winners. Katniss then realizes she is the only girl winner in District 12 and is guarenteed to go back to the arena.

Katniss meets the person living in the hut. She is a runaway from District 8 who was thought to die in an explosion, but actually survived. She is trying to get to District 13 which she believes is real. Also, the Peacekeepers are onto Katniss being in the woods. They are now going to electrify the fence 24/7, and now Katniss is injured because she took a twenty foot drop onto her heel.

However, when she gets to the town square after a big blizzard, she sees that the new peacekeeper has gunners on every corner and an oficial whipping post setup she changes her mind. One day she just gets too overwhelmed and goes into the woods to see the lake. When she gets there, she sees something she didn't think to see; someone is living there.

Katniss thinks about Gale, who just said he loved her and then got angry and left, for a while. Then she goes back to her house. When she gets home she decides to walk Peeta to town where she tells him about her plan to run into the woods and he says he will come. Then Katniss sees what is happening in the square, there is a new peacekeeper and he is whipping Gale for poaching illegaly. After the whipping is done the unconcious Gale is taken to Katniss's mom to be cared for.

When she gets to district 12, gets dressed, and still has an hour to kill, she goes to she the mayor in his study, but Instead she sees something on his TV she is not supposed to see. An uprising in district 8. Then she goes to the woods and explains everything to Gale. She says she is going to run away with him into the forest.

She does this over and over for all of the other districts hoping that the president will decide to forgive her. The two feel that they haven't done enough and Peeta asks Katniss to marry him and, of course, she says yes. Then they go to a huge party at the presidents house where they eat and drink so many things. They also dance.

Katniss gets to the first District after a very long train ride. On the way to the center of the town they see all of the population working on the harvest. When they get to the center, where they will be giving the speech, they go out and talk to the District. People are very happy at the end and one man gives Rues Mockingjay symbol. When Katniss is walking out she sees the man get shot and gets very worried she is not obeying the presidents commands.

At the start of the second book in the Hunger Games Series we meet Katniss, the main character, again. We learn that she is about to go on a long tour to meet all the districts. The day of the tour comes, but, an hour before Katniss is supposed to go on a tour, the president comes to her apartment. He tells her that he will kill her unless she really acts up the lover thing with Peeta because some districts might start to rebel if they think that her move was a rebellion.

They get back and have the after game recovery period, see their stylists, get their clothes, but then, when Katniss is about to go on stage, Haymitch comes and tells her the capitol is very mad at them for the berry “stunt.” Katniss goes through all the after games procedures, and then she gets on the train, worried the whole time. She is just pulling into District 12 again when the book ends.

Katniss and Peeta realized that the things they were being chased by were dogs with the souls of the dead tributes. They run to the top of the cornucopia, but Peeta gets a bad bite on his leg first. Then, Cato puts Peeta in a headlock. Katniss shoots Peeta over the side and the mutts slowly eat him to death. Then Katniss and Peeta get told there can be only one winner. Katniss then thinks of a great idea, she will put poisonous in their hands and they will both eat them at the same time, so, therefore, the gamemakers will have to let them win. This works.

After all that Katniss fell asleep for two days. When she woke up it was a downpour and she sat inside a cave for two more days. During the rain Thresh died. The first day after the rain, while Katniss and Peeta were gathering food, Foxface ate some poisonous berries and died. The next day Katniss goes to the lake and is prepared to fight it out with Cato. When he finally comes he runs right past them and they realize they are being chased.

Katniss has to feed Peeta a sleeping potion to make him knock out so she can go to the "feast." After he is out she gets ready to leave. She camoflauges the cave, fills her water, and packs her bag. Then she leaves. Katniss gets to the cornucopia an hour early and has to wait. Right when the sun comes up she sees foxface, another tribute, come out and quickly grab her bag and run. Then Katniss makes her move. She runs up, grabs the bag, but on the way back she gets a knife to her forehead and gets tackled. When she is about to die, Thresh, from Rues district, saves Katniss because she helped Rue. Then Katniss gets away and brings her medicine to Peeta; bleeding the whole way there.
